Commando Krav Maga

is the Krav Maga system as devised by Moni Aizik. The System was officially born in 1973, when Moni was asked by the IDF to redesign and update their current Krav Maga program in order to meet the needs of the Special Forces.  Moni now lives in Canada but still visits Israel on a monthly basis to train the Sayeret units and Yamam. His program is regularly updated in light of the experience of members of these units.  Where other Krav Maga systems have focused primarily on the civilian market and made attempts to become a 'martial art' in the traditional sense, Moni's system still keeps its footing as a military self defence system, with some modifications made for civilians.

CKM, although a military system of the Special Forces, is ideally suited for the civilian market as it promotes avoidance, quick engagement and finishing if an attacker can't be avoided and then disengagement. Special Forces principals are used which are applicable to civilian street survival.

Where many Krav Maga systems focus on 'punishing' an attacker e.g. raining down punches and kicks etc, CKM practices quick disengagements. This is because it is recognised that fights have many different dimensions to them e.g. what starts as a fist fight, may have a grappling component, go to ground and then the attacker may pull a knife. Spending too much time in 'contact' with the attacker whilst trying to punish them increases the chance of having to fight in other dimensions when it may previously have been possible to escape.

One of the things that distinguishes CKM from other Krav Maga systems is the use of continuous surprise attacks. This is where an individual is surrounded by various students, some armed some not, who repeatedly attack, with little rest in between. The individual must learn to react instinctively, to gun threats, knife threats, punches, throws, kicks etc.  This type of training allows the student to get used to the way that a fight can flow, from a gun threat, into a fist fight, which may then turn into a knife fight or alternatively go to ground. This recognition of the multiple dimensions that a single fight can encompass is one of the most distinguishing features of CKM.training for females, children and a mental & physical component.
